Split screen project

Final project of the year! Split screen project using adobe after effects. Has to be a minimum of 1 minute long, showing the relationship between the human body and the digital media. Mine is of a person swimming and getting exercise and in other side is a heart monitor which I made from scratch.

I used you tube to help me make it, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpGt3dtEiXQ) the video tutorial was for a older version of after effects so somethings had changed so I couldn't get it exactly like the video but I did manage to do it and was really proud.  It took me 2 hours to do but was worth it.

My inspiration came from watching adverts which showed heart monitoring devices such as the apple watch and fitbit. I wanted to visually show what it would look like through these devices.

I had another version of a split screen project which unfortunately was playing up so it wasn't ready in time, that version was basically where I had a video from when I was a baby and everyone was around watching me trying to walk, on the other side had me scrolling through Facebook and being a click away from contacting everyone. As the video played the words 'family time' would pop up on the Facebook screen, and then 'Facebook time' would pop up on the family screen, showing what the person should be doing but isn't.

In conclusion i'm not overly happy with my finished product, my computer wasn't the most powerful with running adobe after effects which made it harder to watch back the video in production, however i'm happy with what I created in terms of the effects I made from scratch although not overly ambitious they were really fun to make.

Experimental film Presentation - Life.

From the beginning to the end, from Viking burials on the way to Valhalla, to Greek mythology and the River Styx. Water has been around since the beginning of the earth, it gives life, takes life, nourishes, poisons. Waters is such an important factor in all of life, to sustain it. My idea is carrying on from one of my projects of Time, when you are underwater there is no sense of time, it stops, you are weightless in the water, you are free. I want to show that water should not be take for granted and we should be grateful to have easy access to it and for it be clean.

I took my inspiration from installation artists Bill Viola and Leandro Erlich.

Bill Viola is well known for his work with water, As one of my most favorite experimental video artists, he was the biggest inspiration for my piece. A quote from Viola which really summed up what I wanted to say was "the most beautiful world" which came from his experience of drowning as a child. Viola did an installation called 'Dreamers' which showed 7 different people of different ages, gender, and racial backgrounds, following his experience when he was 6. The people are laying in serenity on the bottom of a pond with their eyes closed, the experience was when you walked in to the installation you would be surrounded by these images and ambient sound of being underwater to have the full experience.

Leandro Erlich created The swimming pool illusion in Kanazawa, Japan. Achieved by layering two transparent sheets of glass at the top of the pool, and filling the space in between with about 4 inches of water. Although it has no obvious connect to my final piece, it was mainly to see what beautiful shapes the water can create.  The audience can see what its like to be underwater and see the different shapes without have to go scuba diving or swimming, they can also see what its like from above ground looking in to the water and seeing the different shapes.

I researched facts about the use of water and how much gets wasted each year, this helped me choose my shots and how I was got to place them in my time line on premier pro. This also helped me get my messaged across by choosing facts to feature in my film

I made my own soundtrack, not including the royalty free song I found online, using the sounds I got from recording I used audition to put it all together. 

What went well? I used inspiration from other artists to help create my final piece, I managed to obtain the diving pool where I work and with the help of Hollie she helped me get different shots. Using my underwater camera and the use of tutorials it helped me think about all the different uses for water. I researched various facts about water from trusted websites to help get my message across.

Even better if? My images were more stable therefore being able to use certain effects in after effects to make it more interesting to watch.

What were my challenges? Trying to get as many different clips as possible to help send the correct message.

What have I learnt? To always try different shots out even if they don't work out I can always try something different.

Sound Project

My picture I chose was by Francis Bacon called 'Study after Velázquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X' painted in 1953 a re creation of Spanish painter Diego Velázquez called 'Portrait of Pope Innocent X'

He was elected in the 1644 conclave which lasted from the 9th August to 15th September. He passed away 11 years later on the 7th January 1655


Not long after his accession, he initiated legal action against the Barberini Brothers (Francesco, Antonio and Taddeo) for misappropriation of public funds, the bothers were cardinals. Innocent X confiscated their property, and on 19 February 1646, issued a bull (public decree) ordaining that all cardinals who leave the Papal States for more than six months without papal permission (permission from the church) would have their benefices stripped and eventually their cardinalate.


During the civil war between England and Ireland that took place between 1642 to 1651, Pope Innocent X strongly supported Ireland. The civil war was a series of armed conflicts and political schemes between Parliamentarians (Roundheads) and Royalists (Cavaliers) The war ended with the Parliamentarian victory at the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651.

The sounds I used were, the electric hum of a light, church bells, water, and tapping from fingers.

using echos, realtime stretch, and panoramic equalisers I created my final piece, using the zoom pics from stores I recorded all my sounds 

Presentation

My Idea: My series is called 'Then there were three' my idea is based off bump to baby photoshoots, then plan was to document my sisters pregnancy before she gives birth, unfortunately the baby is over due therefore I haven't been able to take photos of him.

Why I came up with it? Hannah wanted to document her pregnancy and it just happened that it coincided with this project so it was perfect timing, Hannah gave me permission to use them for my final piece.

Target audience: My target audience are for new parents or even parents who all ready have children. as they understand whats it's like to go through it and can feel more attached to the image.

Who was it inspired by and why? My images were inspired my Elinor Carucci and Ana Casas Broda because They have a very interesting way to show pregnancy and have a sense of honesty in the images they create.

What went well: It was easy to get the images I wanted as i have a good relationship with my subjects , I love how they came out and the colours of the images my favourite being

 because it was the only image of Hannah that wasn't posed, unfortunately she's not the biggest fan of the image.

Even better if: I spent a long time on






because it was over exposed on one side, so i had to do a lot of work to get it right, so next time I would double check the images before I finish, i could have taken them again but Hannah came full term and was getting tired more quickly so it was harder to get her in to the studio.






Overall i'm really happy with how they came out and i'm proud to show them to an audience which i think it the most important part of this project is of being proud of what we create



Final Piece

Final days of portrait series: And then there were three

I have chosen my last 4 images which I want to display for my final piece.

This is a portrait series of my Nephew called "And then there were three"

I feel confident about this project, it was a nice experience for me and my sister to do together and make me feel like I can give her something she really wanted rather than just books, clothes and toys for the baby!

After meeting with Nathan it gave me a better idea on how I wanted to show my images and portray the story I wanted to tell! interms of the idea behind the images, and having a better idea of what the images looked like from taking a step back. Showing the images to Nathan we discussed that they were quite documentative, we looked in to Ana Casas Broda an artist which Anne suggested from Alice's previous research, we looked at some of her work and articles around her.

We came across an article called Hometruths: Photography, motherhood and identity, which got us thinking about maybe its the identity of motherhood or the mysterious identity of the baby.

We also discussed how some of my images contrasted that of Ana Casas Broda and Elinor Carucci an artist much like Ana Casas Broda, Their photographs are very honest, showing motherhood and being a woman in a new light, taking risks with what they document, they are very intimate photos of their bodies and what they are going though, where as my photos of Hannah are less risky, mostly for her amenity than for anyone else. There is also a sense of before and after with my images.

I'm not the biggest fan of portraits but I felt because this was more personal, I could really connect with my idea, my first photography project didn't go so well as I didn't know what I wanted to do for my idea, I kept changing my kind and couldn't decide what I wanted to do. This time I was really set on my idea.

I'm really happy with how they came out, and happy with my final four photos.

The next step is to work out how i'm going to show the photos and which order I wish to present them.  I also need to consider what I want to say about the photos as a whole.

I loved every second of this part of the project, and even better i get to show something i'm truly proud of.

Trexit

From our most latest task, I put together a video regarding brexit and Trump, called Trexit

I found news reports and riots from youtube and his speech online and cut it all up.

I burned a copy of his speech to show that a lot of what he had to say is lies, and the next 100 days he proved to be as most people see it like Hitler, building walls and segregating people, even throwing them out the county.

What has inspired me over the last few weeks is the whole world coming together to stop the immigration ban in America.

As one of the videos I found said 'The people united, will never be defeated' and I can't think of anything better, it's just a shame that the world came together under such negative circumstances. But hopefully it will help create some change
